Prologue
M ALUHA-LUHA si Clarianette Honey o Claria habang nakatingin sa malawak na dagat. Sa La Belle Resort—ang resort na pag-aari ng boyfriend—niya naisipang pumunta pagkatapos ng nalaman sa mga magulang. Hindi kasi siya nakapaniwala na magagawa iyon ng mga ito sa kanya.
I can’t believe they did that to me. I’m their only child!
Napalingon siya nang maramdamang may umakbay sa kanya. She smiled sadly when she saw Lance, her boyfriend of two years.
“Ayos ka lang ba, Claria?” tanong nito na puno ng pag-aalala ang mukha.
Umiling siya. “I can’t believe they did this to me. And for what? For a company merger? My God, Lance, ano ba ang tingin nila sa akin? I’m not a thing to be parceled.”
Hinagod ni Lance ang likod niya. “It’s okay. We’re going to talk to them. Sasabihin natin sa kanila na nagmamahalan tayo at hindi nila iyon puwedeng gawin. Kapag nalaman ng mga magulang mo na may boyfriend ka na, baka hindi nila ituloy `yon.”
She shook her head. “And you think everything is going to be fine after that? Lance, hindi mo kilala ang mga magulang ko. They’re going to disown me!”
“Claria, you’re being melodramatic. Walang magulang na idi-disown ang sariling anak. Lalo na at ikaw lang ang ka-isa-isa nilang anak.”
Hilam ng luha ang mga mata nang tumingin siya kay Lance. “Hindi mo kilala ang mga magulang ko. They’re strict as hell, lalo na si Mommy. Natatakot ako sa gagawin nila kapag umayaw ako sa gusto nila. I’m still in college. I can’t stand on my own and I still need their support.”
