POV Kiara
The abandoned industrial complex stretched before us like a concrete maze, its broken windows and rusted machinery creating perfect shadows for predators to hide.
I adjusted my grip on the silver-laced blade at my hip as Thomen and I moved deeper into the darkness, our team of five scouts positioned at strategic points around the building's perimeter.
"The tracks lead directly here," I whispered, keeping my voice low as we navigated around a fallen beam. "Fresh vampire scent, maybe six hours old, and Aleron's signature is all over this place."
Thomen's boots crunched softly on debris as he stayed close to my left flank.
"After a whole year of nothing, he suddenly surfaces near our territory. I don't like it."
I paused to concentrate on the mind link with packmates, confirming our team was in position.
"Max has the north exit covered, Mikaela and Jaxon are watching the east and west corridors. If Aleron tries to run like he did at the warehouse district, he'll run straight into them."
"This is the fourth time in two months," Thomen said, his concern evident. "Four times we've tracked him to what should be perfect ambush sites, and four times he's slipped through our fingers like smoke."
"Not this time," I replied, already mapping the building's layout. "I've studied every escape he's made. He relies on height advantage and multiple exit routes. This place has neither."
Thomen moved closer, his warmth immediately soothing the tension in my shoulders.
"You've been pushing yourself too hard with these tracking missions. When was the last time you actually slept through the night?"
"I'll sleep when Aleron is no longer a threat to our pack," I said, though his nearness made my pulse quicken.
