My fingers slid beneath the thin fabric of my nightgown as I lay in the darkness of my small bedroom. The walls were bare, nothing like the rich tapestries that once hung in my childhood home.
I closed my eyes and tried to remember what it felt like before. Before the screaming. Before the blood. Before my entire world burned to ash in a single night.
My hand moved with practiced motion between my thighs, seeking the release that might make me feel human again.
The heat builds slowly, carefully. I've learned to control every sensation, to make sure nothing surprises me. Control was everything now. It was the only thing I have left.
"I have self-control," I breathe into the silence. "I am strong."
My body responded the way it should. The way it was supposed to.
Heat pooled low in my belly, and for a moment, I allowed myself to believe I was healing. That I can reclaim this part of myself that was never touched by their violence.
The sensation built higher. My breath came faster. I was almost there when his face flashed behind my eyelids.
