What Makes a Romance Book Hot? The Story Behind Our Hot Books List

"Hot" is an easy word to put on a book. We wanted ours to mean something. The Hot Books list on My Passion Fandom is not a random shelf of new releases or a paid placement – it is a short list of seven stories that readers are choosing, finishing and loving right now.

Here is exactly how a book earns its place, which trends the current list reflects, and what makes each of the seven worth your time.

How a Book Becomes a Hot Book

Every book on the list has to pass the same five tests.

1. Readers are already reading it

We start with real reading numbers from the My Passion app, not with marketing copy. Together, the seven current Hot Books have been opened more than 579,000 times (as of October 2026). One Night with the Alpha King alone has over 200,000 reads and sits among the most-read titles of more than 320 books reviewed on this site.

2. Readers love it – not just click on it

A big audience is not enough. We also look at how many readers liked a book compared with how many opened it. That is why The Perfect Corporate Wife made the cut: with fewer reads than the others, it has collected more than 3,700 likes – roughly one like for every five reads, the strongest reaction of any book on the list.

3. The story is complete

Nothing cools a hot book faster than a cliffhanger with no next chapter. All seven Hot Books are completed, so you can read from the first page to the ending without waiting for updates. Combined, that is around 940 chapters.

4. It delivers the tropes readers are searching for

Reading trends change, and the list follows them. The current Hot Books are built around four of the most wanted romance tropes of the moment (more on them below).

5. You can only read it on My Passion

Every Hot Book is a Passion exclusive. They are stories written for the app's readers – which is also why you will find our in-depth reviews of each of them here on Fandom.

The Tropes Driving the Current List

Secret babies

A child the hero doesn't know about turns a romance into a story about trust, family and second chances. Three Hot Books are tagged Secret Baby, and a fourth – Hiding My Twin Pups From Their Alpha Dad – is built entirely around a hidden pregnancy. Read more in our guide to secret baby romance books.

Alphas and werewolves

Power, rank and a bond nobody can control: werewolf romance remains one of the most read genres on My Passion. Four of the seven books take place in wolf packs and kingdoms – see forbidden alpha romance books.

Revenge and the comeback wife

An overlooked wife who walks away and returns stronger is one of the most satisfying arcs in romance. It powers The President's Secret Daughter, The Perfect Corporate Wife and, in its own soft way, Hiding My Twin Pups From Their Alpha Dad. Our divorce revenge romance books guide compares them.

Billionaires and office power games

When the man who controls your paycheck is also the man from your past, every meeting is a battlefield. My Boss, My Babydaddy and The Perfect Corporate Wife bring the boardroom heat.

Hot Books FAQ

How often does the Hot Books list change?

The list follows what readers are doing. When new stories start pulling readers in – or the tropes everyone is searching for shift – we update the selection and the guides around it.

Are the Hot Books suitable for all readers?

No. All seven are adult romance rated 18+, with mature themes and steamy scenes.

Where can I read the Hot Books?

Every book is available in the My Passion app. Each review on this site includes the synopsis and an excerpt of the first chapter, so you can try the opening before you start reading in the app.

Why are some popular books not on the list?

The list is intentionally short. A book needs strong reader numbers, a strong reaction, a completed story and the tropes readers are looking for right now – all at the same time. You can always browse every title in our romance book reviews or the all-time Top Picks.
